What is the Best Month to go to Colorado?

Colorado is a great destination, any time of year — so the "best" month depends on what type of trip you're interested in...

Fall: Colorado's fall foliage is absolutely stunning. Golden aspens paint the mountainsides with vibrant colors, typically peaking between mid to late October, depending on the weather. It’s the perfect time for scenic drives and crisp mountain air.

Best Fall Dates: Mid to Late October

Winter: Colorado is a winter wonderland, renowned for its world-class skiing and snowboarding. From family-friendly slopes to adventurous backcountry trails, there’s something for everyone. Visit our Travel Planning Page to find the perfect ski resort for you and your family.

Best Winter Dates: December to Early March

Spring: Spring in Colorado is a hidden gem. Late spring is perfect for hiking, with lush landscapes, fewer crowds, and wildflowers beginning to bloom. Remember to layer up, as temperatures can vary throughout the day!

Best Spring Dates: Mid-May to Mid-June

Summer: Shhh... Summer is Colorado’s best-kept secret! With endless outdoor adventures like camping, hiking 14ers, and unforgettable concerts or movies at Red Rocks, the fun is truly endless. Experience the magic of Colorado under sunny skies and warm weather.

Best Summer Dates: Mid-July to Early September

How old do you have to be to rent a car in Colorado?

On Turo, you need to be 18 to rent or be added as a driver to a reservation. Traditional rentals you will need to be 24 years old to rent a vehicle in Colorado.

Do you need a vehicle when visiting Colorado?

YES — and not because we are a rental company! Downtown Denver is small, and if you're wanting to explore even a half day, you will need a vehicle. Rideshares don’t always go to the mountains, especially during winter. There are unlimited must-see places outside of the city that need to be explored!

How many days are enough for a trip to Colorado?

Driving through Colorado’s mountains is an adventure in itself, with winding roads, jaw-dropping scenic vistas, and breathtaking terrain. While Google Maps might estimate a route at 2.5 hours, it could take closer to 4 hours — because the mountains naturally slow you down (in the best way possible!)

We recommend savoring the journey, taking time to soak in the views, and stopping for those unforgettable photo ops along the way. In Colorado, it’s not just about the destination—it’s about the adventure getting there.

  • Quick Getaway (3 Days): Perfect for a taste of Colorado. Explore 1–2 charming mountain towns, enjoy 2 hikes, and catch a concert at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

  • Extended Adventure (4–7 Days): Ideal for those wanting to explore more. Visit the Great Sand Dunes, hike mountain peaks, or camp under the stars. This timeframe lets you fully experience Colorado’s diverse landscapes and outdoor activities.
